A-list actor and newly crowned Undisputed WWE champion John Cena confirmed that he underwent a hair transplant because of the "bullying" of fans.
Cena, 47, who defeated Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 41 to win his record 17th world title, admitted to undergoing the procedure during an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show Monday (April 21), credited the fans in his new heel persona by stating, "I listen to you idiots, I do."
"You have to take the ones from the side and plug them in on top. It just takes a while to come in. It's coming in. Hopefully, in a couple of months it looks better. There's another headline. Hair transplant," Cena said. "There is no shame in that. I have a problem, I try to fix it. I'm not going to tell you who did it because I'm still waiting for it to get better. Once it's better and I get the long flowing locks, I'll be like, 'Go to this guy.' I'm working on it. Work in progress. I just saw so many bald spots signs. You get the deal and your hair falls out because the new ones have to grow, so the old ones fall out. January, February, I had it in November. That's when I came half a skinhead. Thank you for being so aware of my needs and emotions. You guys ripped me to shreds for genetic problem that I can't control. 'You don't look good enough out there.' You guys aren't cool to me. I'm in the Rumble trying to win. 'Man has a bald spot.' That's not fair. I can't control that. It happens to seven out of ten dudes. One of you sons of bitches could've pulled me to the side. In unison, you chant and make me feel small and embarrass me. Y'all don't know what that's like. That is straight-up bullying and not cool. Thank you for bullying me into getting surgical hair replacement. That's how far y'all pushed me."
Cena entered his main event WrestleMania 41 match tied with WWE Hall of Famer 'Nature Boy' Ric Flair with 16 world championship reigns, which had previously stood as the record for nearly 25 years. Flair shared a post on his X account congratulating Cena, which appeared to include a photo taken after the latter won his 16th world title in 2017.
"Congrats To My Great Friend @JohnCena On Becoming A 17x Champion! It Was Only A Matter Of Time! You And @CodyRhodes Put On An Instant Classic! Much Respect! WOOOOO! #WrestleMania," Flair.
Cena, who turned heel at the Elimination Chamber premium live event in March, marking the first time he'd played a villainous character since 2003, received help from rapper Travis Scott in his match against Rhodes. Scott had previously helped Cena and Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson -- who was inexplicably absent from WrestleMania 41 despite having an ownership stake in the company -- beat down Rhodes to solidify the heel turn.
Cena served as WWE's franchise player for more than a decade before transitioning to a part-time schedule amid his emergence as an A-list Hollywood star in the mid-2010s and previously announced that 2025 would be his final year as a full-time wrestler. Rhodes, the son of late WWE Hall of Famer Dusty Rhodes, held the Undisputed WWE championship for 378 days, having defeated Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40.
